12 Reasons to Have 12 Photos in Your Poshmark Listings

Updated: Oct 21, 2022

If we listened to the Poshmark commercial, we’d just have to “snap a few photos” and we’d be done. And this might work well for a casual Posher, but for a professional reseller, your listings should have more than a “few” photos.

I like to have a dozen photos per listing, so here is a DOZEN reasons to have a DOZEN photos in each of your listings.

Reason #1 - It's your job

Sorry to be gruff, but someone had to say it. If you are a professional reseller, you should want to do more than the bare minimum simply because it’s your job.

Reason #2 - Photos = Trust

Have you ever purchased an item that only had one or two photos in the listing? It doesn’t feel great. As a buyer, it makes you wonder: “Why are there only 2 photos? Are they hiding something? If I place an order, will it even ship?” When you include more photos in your listings, it alleviates unnecessary stress on part of the buyer, and in turn makes them more likely to buy from you.

Reason #3 - Show off your item!

This is your chance to visually sell your item and make it look good! Show off the sparkle or cute ruffle—whatever—have fun with it! Close-up photos also reassure the buyer that it is a quality item.

Reason #4 - CYA (cover your a$$)

Have you ever had a case opened and wish you took more photos? That alone should convince you to include more photos in your listing. Let’s take this scenario for example: you quickly photograph a pair of pants that you’ve never worn; the buyer purchases them but then opens a case and says there’s a stain on the backside; you know that is FALSE. However, because you only took 5 photos, you actually didn’t include one of the backside, and now the buyer returns dirty pants to you. Not cool. Include more photos.

Reason #5 - Buyers can't return items for fit

Buyers on Poshmark and Mercari can’t return items, so if we as resellers want to convince them to spend their hard-earned money in our closets, we need to reassure them that it’s worth it. I once bought a top on Poshmark that only had 3 photos, but it was a basic long sleeve blouse so I thought it was okay. Wrong. This blouse had IMMENSE bell sleeves, like omg I could fit an orchestra in there. I didn’t even bother relisting it and just donated it. I gave her 5 stars because she was an Instagram acquaintance, but I learned my lesson.

Reason #6 - Proper documentation

For your sake and the sake of your buyer, your listings should include specific photos (depending on the item). Here are the photos I think should be included in every listing:

Tops/Bottoms

Shoes

  1. Size

10. Top half of back

10. Sides

11. Bottom half of back

11. Sides

12. Measurements in a photo collage

12. Measurement of heel height or detail or flaw

Reason #7 - It's not that hard

Again, sorry to be gruff, but seriously, it’s really not that hard. Like, at all. You’re already taking pictures…just take a few more.

Reason #8 - Think of it like online dating

This may sound silly, but think of your item’s listing as its dating profile. You want to make your listing as attractive as possible to potential suitors. Let’s do a little role play ;) Imagine you’re newly single and looking to mingle. You come across a profile that you really like, but they only have one photo. Red flag, right? Yep. Same with your listing.

Reason #9 - Beat the competition

Imagine you pick up a NWT Johnny Was top at the thrift and you are BEYOND excited, but, turns out it’s oversaturated and everyone and their mother is selling it on Poshmark. With an oversaturated item, you want your listing to be the BEST so your item gets purchased, and a lot of times it comes down to the photos.

Reason #10 - Get to know your items

I am a firm believer that we as resellers should know our products inside and out. Since we can’t personally try on every single item we source, it’s best to inspect them, and one of the best ways to inspect/discover your item is to photograph it intimately.

Reason #11 - Make measurements easier

I know a lot of resellers loathe taking measurements for their items (that’s a whole other blog post LOL) but photos make it easier. Simply take a photo of the measurement, this way not only does this place the responsibility on the buyer to accurately read the measuring tape, but it also gives yet another perspective of the item. And not to mention then you don’t have to type out the measurements in your listing.

Reason #12 - ...because I said so :)

Allow me to elaborate: you’re here reading my blog for SOME reason; most likely, you trust me. So trust me when I say you should include more photos in your listings.

In short, more photos mean more money

I hope I convinced you to include more photos in your listings, and I can't wait for you to reap the benefits of it.
